Presentation of the Map of Viscri done by children to HRM, King Charles III
Alba Eglesia Foundation was honored to participate at the meeting with HRM, King Charles III of the United Kingdom and Commonwealth, in Viscri, Romania, on 6th of June, 2023.
The team of the foundation has presented the Map of Viscri as it was done by the children from the Educational Centre in collaboration with the volunteers of the UNESCO Viscri Action Camp 2023.
The meeting with HRM took place at the Fortified Church, the most iconic symbol of Viscri. During the meeting, members of the community presented to King Charles III traditional handicraft and gastronomy products, handmade creations and decorative objects.
The Map of Viscri was the result of the reinterpretation of the cultural and natural heritage of the village of Viscri from the children’s perspective. The map consists of trails that children like to walk on, stories they know about the village, its people, its houses and customs as well as activities they like to do in the village.
By creating the map, children not only shared their ideas and memories but also learned what cultural and natural heritage mean for Viscri and why it’s important to preserve and contribute to it through daily actions and collaboration with the rest of the people within the community.
Throughout the creation of the Map of Viscri, the children at the Educational Centre were supported and guided by the volunteers of the UNESCO Viscri Action Camp which took place in May this year.
The meeting with HRM, King Charles III represented for the children of the Educational Centre and for the Alba Eglesia Foundation an historic opportunity to showcase the work done at the Centre and to promote heritage education as an important part of the sustainable community development.
