UNESCO World Heritage Volunteers Viscri Action Camp 2022

In September 2022, Alba Eglesia Foundation in partnership with the Mihai Eminescu Trust Foundation and with the support of the “Heritage for the Future” Cultural Association, co-hosted the first UNESCO World Heritage Volunteers Viscri Action Camp in Romania.

The action camp brought to Viscri 10 volunteers from all over the world. The young people, most of which were doing studies in architecture and heritage conservation and management, worked for 10 days on improving the local infrastructure for the visitors of the UNESCO heritage site.

They designed and executed new signs for tourists to be posted inside the village and for signalling two trekking routes around the village.

On the last days of the camp, Alba Eglesia hosted a meeting between representatives of the local community and public heritage conservation authorities at regional and national levels.

The meeting was possible thanks to the participation and support of the The National Commission of Romania for UNESCO, the National Heritage Institute and the Brașov County Council. Among the topics debated were the roles of the local community and of regional and national authorities in the conservation and recognition of cultural heritage.

The young volunteers were actively involved in the meeting and also presented the work done during the Action Camp.
